Gul | Testing the Viper 6/5/4mm

The winter may be icy and wet and occasionally bleak, but it's also full of opportunities (and more waves). To counter the cold, it is best to invest in a thicker wetsuit and a flask of something hot to come back to. Now we don’t sell coffee, but we do sell a wide range of winter suits for all abilities.

Introducing the Gul Viper 6/5/4mm Hooded Wetsuit. An affordable, reliable, tried-and-tested piece of kit that is guaranteed to improve your cold-water strike missions without the hefty price tag.

To put the Viper to the test, we sent one out to our resident wetsuit tester and WSO staff member - Will Arney. On a recent trip down to the Gower Peninsula, Will put the wetsuit through a few waves before hot footing it back to his laptop to write up a review. Here goes…

Gul | Viper 6/5/4mm Chest Zip Hooded Wetsuit

Precision in thickness

Crafted with a considered mix of neoprene thickness, ranging from a toasty 6mm on the core to 5mm in the torso and 4mm on the arms, this wetsuit strikes the perfect balance. The result? Snug and warm for the coldest days without compromising high-performance flexibility. This is super important for winter swell chasing here on UK shores.

Yamamoto Neoprene Excellence

Using celebrated Japanese Yamamoto neoprene known for its exceptional quality and found in some of the best wetsuits worldwide — soft, flexible, and incredibly warm. It’s great to see such a high-tech material in a more cost-effective suit - something Gul are really stepping up in recent years.

Graphene Technology

Equipped with a Graphene coating on the yarns of the thermal lining around the core, ensuring your body heat stays right where it belongs — close to you. Sitting out back in winter can leave you wide open to heavy winds and sideways rain, so the added layering makes a world of difference.

All Good in the Hood

Cold water flushing, a thing of the past? Maybe, thanks to Gul's innovative hood system. By incorporating a separate neck seal within the hood, it forms a barrier against cold water running down your chest and back that really works like we've not experienced before. This is another great feature that would usually only be found in wetsuits around the £500+ mark.

Seams that Seal the Deal

Fully stretch-taped seams add the cherry on top, ensuring that cold water stays out for longer at no expense to the suit's flexibility. It’s a tricky balancing act with warmth vs flexibility in a winter wetsuit, and we think Gul have got it just right.

Act Fast!

Due to this suit’s popularity and limited stock, we have seen the Gul Viper fly off the shelves in recent weeks. Don’t miss the chance to get your hands on one!
